Stan Kelly, O.A.M., lived in Ararat, Victoria, all his life. He worked as an engine-driver for the Victorian Railways for 41 years, retiring in the 1970s. His favourite pastimes include painting in water-colours, particularly Australian native plants, and prospecting for gold. In 1978 he was presented with the Order of Australia Medal for his contribution to conservation.
